The Greene County softball team had a strong showing last week after two wins and one loss before the quarterfinal game on Wednesday. The Rams have a 12-12 record.
Monday, June 27, brought only loss for the Rams last week, with a home field fall to Perry, 4-1. The Rams scored a run in the first but Perry scored four runs in the third for the victory.
Olivia Shannon and Alexa Peters hit doubles, with singles by Grace Hardaway and Payton Kokenge. The Rams had 21 putouts with three errors on 27 total chances. Emma Hoyle pitched, allowing three hits and three walks, with two hit batters and six strikeouts against 26 batters.
The Rams picked up a win Tuesday at home against Southeast Valley, taking the game 7-5. GC opened up a 5-0 lead which held until the sixth inning when both teams scored a pair of runs. The Jaguars rallied for three runs in the seventh but it wasn’t enough.
Hoyle rapped a double with base hits going to Shannon, Peters, Stream, Carmyn Paup, Chanlyn Cunningham (2) and Danielle Madsen.
There were 21 putouts and no errors on 22 total chances. Hoyle threw 137 pitches, resulting in six hits, seven walks, two hit batters and 10 strikeouts.
On Wednesday, the Rams hosted Nevada, taking the win 13-3. GC took batting practice, belting out 14 hits. Stream rapped a double with Shannon, Peters and Kokenge each collecting three base hits. Madsen rapped two singles. Stream was credited with six RBIs.
Hoyle was on the mound, allowing three runs with two walks and seven strikeouts.
The Rams are scheduled to play on Wednesday, July 6, at Southeast Valley High School in the Class 3A Regional Quarterfinal. The winner will meet the victor between Pocahontas vs Saydel in Saydel on Saturday, July 9. The regional champion will be selected on Tuesday, July 12, at a site to be determined.
